How to Use Orchids to Brighten Up Your Bathroom

May 26, 2015

On the list of decorating priorities in your home, your bathroom probably doesn’t rank too highly. However, even though it isn’t a public space where guests spend a lot of time, it’s still a room you use daily. And while you may not want to invest huge sums of money to spruce it up, adding a few inexpensive and colorful touches can make a substantial difference.

In fact, decorating your bathroom with orchids is a win-win for both you and your plants. Not only can adding an orchid to your bathroom brighten up your space, but it can actually make keeping your plants healthy even easier. Since a bathroom environment is naturally warm and humid thanks to steamy showers, and most bathroom windows don’t let in much direct sunlight, your bathroom is actually the perfect place for your orchids to thrive.

But with such a small space, how can you get creative with bathroom décor? Try these three ideas for brightening up your bathroom with an orchid.

1. Make a Countertop Display

Your bathroom counter is likely your first instinct for where to put your orchid, but you can take the display to the next level by placing your orchid on a mirrored tray or positioning it alongside decorative soaps.

2. Dress Up Your Windowsill

If your bathroom is already hurting for extra counter space, the windowsill is another great option for displaying an orchid. Since bathroom window blinds tend to remain shut even throughout the day, you won’t have to worry about your orchid getting too much direct sunlight on the windowsill. Try arranging a small cluster of mini orchids in one corner or decorate a pot to perfectly match your shower curtain.

3. Create Your Own Vertical Garden

Can’t get enough of your orchids, even when you’re in the shower? You may want to consider turning your shower into a rainforest oasis with this vertical garden tutorial. This would be an especially great idea for bathrooms with glass door showers, so the orchid is vividly displayed.

It’s true: your bathroom décor doesn’t have to be boring. With just the addition of a single orchid, you can turn the most hum-drum room of your home into a tropical oasis.
