Use Phalaenopsis Orchids to Create Stunning Holiday Displays

October 31, 2012

Orchid Holiday DecoratingGorgeous Phalaenopsis orchids are the undisputed stars of the orchid world. Their ability to grace any room or occasion with elegance and beauty has made Phals a favorite with interior decorators, wedding designers and event planners. Phalaenopsis orchids are available in such an amazing array of rich colors that they can be easily matched to any decorating scheme. With only minimal effort and preparation, Phalaenopsis orchids can be used to create stunning holiday displays.

Double-potting is the trick to our orchids’ chameleon-like ability to take center stage in any decorating scheme. Just Add Ice Orchids are potted in a clear grower pot before being placed in a decorative pot. This not only allows easy examination of orchid roots, it makes it easy to move our orchids from one container to another as seasons and decorating styles change. When moving your orchid, always support the plant by taking firm hold of both the stem and stake as you draw the grower pot out of one container and place it in another.

Create stunning holiday table displays

  • For Thanksgiving, make a natural runner by scattering colorful fall leaves down the center of your dining or serving table. Top with an elegant row of yellow and orange orchids in clay pots or cornhusk baskets. Use raffia to tie orchid spikes to their stakes.
  • For Thanksgiving, Group 3 to 5 baskets of different heights and sizes. Place an orchid in each basket, using fall leaves, moss, small gourds and/or nuts to fill in around pots.
  • For Christmas, march a row of tall white orchids in bright red ceramic pots down a length of pine garland wound with tiny white Christmas lights.
  • For Christmas, use crystal or silver vases and bowls and fill with glass balls, silver or gold beads and/or holly sprigs.
