Erichka and Mike are a couple from Brooklyn, NY, and Mike has made a tradition of gifting Erichka an orchid for special occasions like their anniversaries and holidays.
Mike left for boot camp at the beginning of this year and wasn't able to be with Erichka for Valentine's Day. But even though he missed this holiday in person, the orchid he sent through Just Add Ice allowed Erichka to celebrate with their tradition after all.
Erichka and Mike will reunite after boot camp this summer, and Just Add Ice is arranging to send them an orchid to commemorate this important moment in their lives.
On his way to visit me after surgery, my brother picked up "the cheapest pretty thing they had since it'll die in a week anyway". Considering my black thumb he was being generous thinking it'd last that long.
Three years and two re-pottings later, it's more than tripled in size and often has 40+ blooms at a time - it's a spectacularly beautiful addition to my home. My family and friends continue to be amazed every time they come over and find that not only is it still not dead, but it's absolutely flourishing. If *I* can keep this thing alive and beautiful, *anyone* can.
I just received my just add ice orchid for my birthday last week. The blossoms are beautiful and I have two buds. One is starting to open and the other is pretty tight.
I have it by my kitchen window in which it gets filtered light through out the day. The roots are nice and green and some are leaving the container.
I just gave them their first watering...3 ice cubes. I really hope I can turn this into a favorite hobby because I have always found orchids very interesting. A good friend of mine has over 40 mature assorted varieties.
