Resources from the American Orchid Society

April 7, 2011

Among the services that the American Orchid Society provides to orchid lovers is the Orchid Source Directory. The Source Directory helps orchid hobbyists find vendors for everything orchid related -- like orchid plants, supplies, books, greenhouses, fertilizers and other orchid-related wares. Their user-friendly online version puts hundreds of reliable shopping sources at your fingertips. The vendor listings also include any pertinent information about each business, their specialties and even links to vendors' websites.

Resources can be found around the world – alphabetically, in Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States  (or can click on the map to specify the listings for the state you choose) and Venezuela. Geographically though, the resource directory covers North America, South America, Asia, and England, and even far flung islands like Jamaica and New Zealand.

They also offer a listing of affiliated societies, so you can find one in your area. You can click on the state where you live, or just scan through the listings alphabetically. It will tell you contact information as well as when the society meets. Joining a local orchid society is your best introduction to the fascinating world of orchids. They can help you discover how best to grow orchids in your climate, plus offer community connections that forward the AOS ideals of education, conservation and research. Monthly meetings often feature a program, sales and/or raffle table, education session and the opportunity to discuss culture and exchange plants.

So whether your orchids are Phalaenopsis orchids or not, the American Orchid Society is sure to have everything you need to keep you happy and them healthy!
