9 Creative Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

February 9, 2016

It’s official: Boxes of chocolates and bouquets of flowers have had their day in the sun. This Valentine’s Day, it’s all about the creative gift. Here are nine great ideas that are sure to melt your valentine’s heart.

1. Bake Heart-shaped Treats cookie 1

Sure, heart-shaped cookies or brownies may rank pretty high in the “cheesy” gift category, but taking the extra time to make themed baked goods shows how much you really care.

2. Plan a Scavenger Hunt

Make the clues reference details about your relationship and have the final “treasure” be something you can enjoy and experience together—like a concert, movie or dinner at a restaurant you’ve been meaning to try.

3. Cook Together

Pick out an exotic or unusual dish you both have been meaning to try and go all out in the kitchen. Not only will you be able to enjoy eating a meal together, but you’ll get the added bonus of pride in knowing you made it from scratch.

4. Make a Scrapbookscrapbook

Keepsake presents are always appreciated for the time and effort that goes into making them, not to mention you and your partner can enjoy looking back at the memories for years to come.

5. Get Punny

Whether you bake muffins for your “stud muffin” or present a special teacher in your life with a bouquet of rulers proclaiming he or she “rules,” a funny and punny gift is sure to bring a smile to your valentine’s face.

6. Take a Class Together

Art studios and cooking classes often offer couples’ nights. Sign up with your one and only and spend this Valentine’s Day learning a new skill together.

7. Give a Potted Plant

Bouquets look pretty for a small window of time, but their ultimate fate is in the trashcan. Avoid this problem by presenting your loved one with a potted plant. Look for something unique and memorable, but easy to care for—like an orchid.

8. Have a Movie Night couple movie

If you don’t feel like fighting the crowds for a date night out, get a couple of movies and turn your living room into a cozy screening room. Check out a classic you’ve always meant to watch or go against the grain by watching the opposite of a romantic comedy.

9. Make a Future Date Night Jar

Demonstrate your commitment to great dates all year long by presenting your partner with a jar full of ideas. Write your best plans on scraps of paper or popsicle sticks and keep the jar handy for those nights in the future when you can’t think of anything fun to do.

Remember, Valentine’s Day is all about showing your special someone how much you care. This year, spend a little extra time and come up with or create a gift they’ll really enjoy.
