Plan Your Next Vacation to France and See Wild Orchids

September 21, 2010
Provence is a region of France that is home to almost thirty species of orchids. While August seems to be the best month to travel, according to WhenUGo.com based on the weather and the prices of hotels and flights, orchid lovers may want to wait until the period of time between February and May in order to see the wild orchids in bloom. But who says you can only go once?  Why not go in August AND in the spring?

Nature Travel Specialists
recommends Wildlife Provençale, an independent wildlife holiday company specializing in regional wildlife tours of Provence in the South of France to show you the most beautiful areas of the region.

“The area boasts over twenty-six species of orchid, in fact within 100m of the village centre we can see Military, Pyramidal, bee, spider, butterfly and lizard orchids.

The disappearing peasant lifestyle still remains in our valley, where the dull clank of sheep neck bells creates truly atmospheric music. A chequerboard pattern carpets the valley floor with fields of lavender, thyme, wheat, apricots and cherries, which are fringed by poplar, lime, mulberry, and almond trees.

Coppiced oak woodlands dominate the valley flanks, giving way to beech and hazel above 100m…. close proximity to some of the world's finest wines (Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondes, etc.) in no way influences our itinerary, (but it could if you insist!).”

If you’d like to see some photos of the area’s wild orchids, go to ProvenceBeyond.com and click the arrows to see the Giant Orchid,
the Green-Winged Orchid, the Heart-Flowered Orchid, the Long-Spurred Orchid and the Pyramidal Orchid and learn all about them.

If you’re really in the mood to learn all you can about the area, (and know French fairly well) be sure to visit the website, Provence’s Orchids.

Have a great trip!
