3 Creative Ways to Let Orchids Inspire You in the New Year

December 31, 2014

Regardless of whether you’re someone who typically embraces New Year’s resolutions, we’re willing to bet you could still use some inspiration to be your best self in 2015. If you’re tired of being bombarded by advertisements claiming to help you be more organized/productive/healthy/etc. in 2015, we have good news: inspiration to achieve all your goals might not be as elusive as you think.

Often, all we need to stick to a goal or resolution is a simple reminder that it’s important to us. Having an item that serves as an inspiration trigger for when you feel yourself losing faith could be the difference that helps you stay on track.

Don’t believe us? Here are three creative ways that orchids can help inspire you for the New Year.

1. Orchids as a Reward

Have you been itching to purchase a new orchid? Well, then use that desire as a motivational tool! Set a goal and make a bargain with yourself: once you achieve the results you’re looking for, you can treat yourself to a new orchid. Perhaps you want to stick to an exercise routine or master a new hobby. Choosing a reward that you can only have once you meet your goal can give you the boost of inspiration you need to get started.

2. Orchids as a Reminder

If you already have an orchid that you love, try associating your plant with a resolution you want to keep. For instance, if you want to lose weight or curb your snack habit, put your orchid in your kitchen as a reminder of what your goals mean to you. You’ll see your plant every time you start to go to the refrigerator and it will remind you to assess your choices.

3. Orchids as a Habit

You’re already in the routine of watering your orchid once a week – what other weekly habits would you like to adopt? Perhaps your New Year’s resolution is to keep a cleaner house. If so, try to intertwine your weekly habits. For instance, each time you water your orchid, you can also run the vacuum. Or, if you have a goal of reading more books in the New Year, make it a point to set aside some reading time in a comfy chair next to your newly watered plant.

When you make orchids part of your inspiration for a better 2015, you not only have a better chance of achieving your goals, you also get the benefit of a beautiful plant in your home. Now it’s your turn: tell us what goals you hope to tackle in the New Year and share your plans for inspiration in the comments below.
