How to Find the Perfect Planter for Your Décor

May 3, 2016

Not surprisingly, when we talk about decorating with plants, we tend to focus on the stars of the show: the blooms and greenery that sprouts from the pot. However, what often gets overlooked is how influential the right planter can be to the décor of your home. In fact, we’d even go so far as to say that the right planter can truly make your aesthetic.

But how do you know when your beloved flowers and plants have found their perfect match? To help you find the perfect planter for your décor, we put together a list of questions to guide your decision.

3 Questions to Ask When Searching for the Perfect Planter

1. What kind of environment will the planter need to withstand?

If you’re decorating an outdoor space, it’s important to remember that not all planters are designed to face the elements. For instance, a ceramic planter—while beautiful—can easily crack and doesn’t often hold up well to freezing temperatures. Of course, decorating an outdoor space can also open up options you may not otherwise have for indoor plants, like a cement or heavy stone planter.

2. What kind of vibe do you want to achieve?

Changing up your planter is the easiest way to alter the “personality” of your plant—and the subsequent area of your home where it resides. For instance, if you want an earthier, natural vibe to the room your plant inhabits, you may choose a terra-cotta or wood planter. Or, if you’re going for a more formal aesthetic, you may choose a classic ceramic or ornate cast iron planter. Ask yourself what kind of vibe you hope your area will portray and search for a planter that lives up to those expectations.

3. How much can you spend?

A high-quality planter can cost anywhere from $30 to $300, depending on its size and material. However, before you invest in the planter of your dreams, take a step back and consider if the cost is worth it. For example, is your plant still growing? Is this planter just a temporary home? If so, you may be better off purchasing a high-quality plastic planter that, while it gives off the appearance of being made of more solid material, is actually quite cost effective.

Selecting the best planter for your plant can be a daunting process, but it’s one you can easily handle when you ask the right questions. Think carefully about your selection and choose a planter that will elevate your décor to the next level.
