How to Care for Your Just Add Ice Orchid

August 17, 2011

If you received a beautiful Just Add Ice Orchid recently, you may be wondering how to care for this exotic plant. New orchid owners will be pleased to learn that Just Add Ice Orchids require very little care. Orchid owners need only follow a few simple guidelines to ensure that their Just Add Ice Orchid plant will continue to bloom beautifully for months to come.

  1. Place your Just Add Ice Orchid where it will receive plenty of bright, indirect light. Never expose your orchid to harsh, bright sunlight as it may burn the plant’s leaves and cause blossoms to drop.
  2. Place your Just Add Ice Orchid where daytime temperatures range from 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, dropping to 60 to 70 degrees at night. Avoid exposing your orchid plant to cold or warm drafts.
  3. Once a week, water your orchid by placing 3 ice cubes, equivalent to ¼ cup of water when melted on top of the soil in the plant’s pot. As the ice cubes melt, they will provide the perfect amount of water necessary to encourage your orchid to maintain a beautiful, long-lasting display. If foliage begins to look dull or limp, add an additional ice cube or two as these are signs that your orchid is not receiving enough water.
  4. Just Add Ice Orchids require between 55% and 75% humidity. Orchid owners who live in northern states where indoor humidity levels often drop to 20% or less can use a room humidifier to increase humidity levels. Carrying your Phalaenopsis orchid into the bathroom when you shower can also help replenish moisture.
