How Much Does Orchid Delivery Cost?

February 9, 2018

Previously, we discussed five reasons why orchid delivery was a better Valentine’s Day gift than a traditional cut bouquet. However, even with these compelling reasons, we’re guessing you were left with one fairly important question: how much does it cost?

There’s no denying that orchids make great gifts and purchasing orchids online couldn’t be an easier process, but it is important to carefully consider what you’re getting for your money. You don’t want to choose a discount provider, only to discover the quality of the product isn’t even worth the discount price. Likewise, you don’t want to pay a premium price if there isn’t a drastic difference in quality.

First, let’s talk specific figures: How much does quality orchid delivery cost?

Naturally, the price of your orchid delivery depends on a few things, such as the size of the orchid, the type of the orchid and — perhaps most importantly — the quality of the orchid. While specific costs will vary, a full-sized, high-quality Phalaenopsis orchid delivery should cost you between $50 and $60. For a mini orchid, you can expect anywhere between $25 and $40.

Now, keep in mind that this price isn’t just for the plant itself. There are several other factors you’ll need to consider about your provider to ensure your money is going to a worthwhile product. Here are a few reasons why the lowest cost provider isn’t necessarily the best value when shopping for orchid delivery:

The Quality of the Product May Suffer

All orchids are not created equal. The growing practices need to be high quality and professional to ensure that the plants are in the best shape and health to produce long-lasting blooms. Make sure you’re ordering from a grower that uses appropriate growing practices.

JustAddIce orchids are grown by Green Circle Growers, an Oberlin, Ohio, greenhouse ranked among the Top 10 Greenhouses by Greenhouse Grower Magazine. We have been in business for 50 years and maintain 108 acres of indoor growing space, making us one of the largest floral greenhouses in the Midwest.

The Grower May Not Use Sustainable Growing Practices

Growing orchids and other flowers can create a large carbon footprint. Look for a grower who uses sustainable growing practices that minimize the impact oorchid-delivery.jpgn the environment. For instance, are they conserving water and taking steps to reduce carbon emissions? (We recycle and reuse 100 percent of our water and have reduced carbon emissions by 90 percent in recent years using sustainable practices such as implementing wood boilers to eliminate dependence on natural gas.)

The Shipping Practices May be Reckless

If you’ve seen a potted orchid in a grocery store or floral shop, you’ve likely noticed how delicate the stems and flowers are — and if you think shipping orchids requires lots of care and attention, you’d be correct. If the shipping practices of your provider aren’t clearly outlined on their website, don’t risk ordering with them. They should be prepared to tell you exactly how they ensure the safety and freshness of your plant once it leaves their greenhouses.

The Damage Policy May be Nonexistent

Even with the most careful shipping practices, errors are bound to happen and you want to know your investment will be protected. Make sure there is a clear way to contact your provider’s customer service center so you’ll know damaged products will be replaced with minimal hassle.

If you’re going to spend the money on orchid delivery, you want to ensure the product you receive is worth the price — and sometimes that may mean shopping above the lowest price point. Just make sure to do your research and choose a provider that practices transparency and demonstrates quality.
