Anniversary Gift Ideas That Are Better Than Traditional Favorites

August 25, 2020

Flowers are usually a go-to anniversary gift — they’ve long been associated with romantic gestures, plus they can be picked up on the go if you’re the forgetful type. If you’re celebrating an anniversary and need a gift idea, why not give the lovebirds in your life a long-lasting orchid, anthurium or money tree? Not only are they gorgeous, but they are also easy to care for and can match any decor.

Incorporate plants into your anniversary gifts

Here are three ways you can incorporate orchids, anthuriums and money tree plants into your anniversary celebrations.

1. Give a ‘Modern’ Gift

If you’re married, you might be surprised to learn the orchid is the modern gift for the 28th year of marriage. But you don’t have to be on year 28 to give your sweetie the gift of orchids. An orchid makes a lovely addition to any home or office. Imagine your significant other’s surprise when instead of a bouquet of roses, a brightly color orchid in a beautiful pot is delivered to their office.

Though we typically think of flowers as a gift women enjoy, men can also enjoy receiving blooms or plants. In fact, research shows men experience the same emotions as women when they receive flowers. Money tree plants are a popular substitute for flowers, and they last for years.

2. Use an Orchid, Money Tree or Anthurium as a Dinner Centerpiece

Create a beautiful centerpiece by personalizing your orchid, anthurium or money tree plant. You could paint the pot with chalkboard paint and write a special message to your better half. Or you could create your own arrangement by using a few mini orchids in a decorative container. Here is some information to help you create a stunning arrangement.

If you’re giving an anniversary gift to a set of lovebirds in your life, consider tying a ribbon with their wedding colors in it around the pot, buy an orchid in a color that matches their decor or send a money tree, which symbolizes wealth and prosperity (something we could all use more of this year!).

3. Give a Plant-Themed Gift

There are several other ways to incorporate the theme of plants into an anniversary. You could give an orchid-themed gift in addition to the plant itself. If your significant other is a fan of jewelry, select a gem with orchid colors like orchid tourmaline or amethyst. Or you could select jewelry in the shape of an orchid.

Consider sending a plant-themed care package to your lovebirds. If you send a bright red anthurium, send other red things to make it a date night: a bottle of red wine, ingredients to create a pasta dish, heart-shaped chocolates.

Go green with money tree plants and think about a sustainable gift for your couple. Along with a money tree plant, you could send other earth-friendly gifts such as nontoxic candles, recycled wine bottle drinking glasses, zero-waste cutlery and straws, or a throw blanket made of recycled water bottles.

An anniversary gift they’ll remember

Anniversary gifts don’t have to consist of the standard bouquet of flowers or jewelry. Put some flair into your special event by adding potted plants to the mix and watch their faces light up when they experience the joy of fresh plants.
