Simplify Your Wedding Planning With These 3 Questions

January 9, 2020

So you just got engaged—congratulations! While this is certainly an exciting time, the idea of planning a wedding can seem overwhelming.

First, take a deep breath and remember, you don’t have to do everything at once! You can take small steps toward wedding planning now to make things less overwhelming later.

Start by asking three basic wedding planning questions.

1. Where Do You Want to Get Married?

Figuring out where you’d like to tie the knot will set the foundation for the rest of your wedding planning, so it’s an important question. Would you like to stay local or travel for a destination wedding? The scenery or the feel of the venue will help you decide how the other elements like food, flowers and decor should look on your big day.

A tip from us — Since many venues are booked a year or more in advance, have at least three potential locations in mind.

2. How Many People Do I Plan to Invite?

This is a question that may have already answered itself if you’ve chosen the location for your nuptials. Oftentimes, destination weddings are smaller in size due to travel logistics and additional expenses. If you have a large family and many friends, staying local may be your best bet. But again,  it’s your wedding, so  invite as many or as few people as you’d like!

Here’s a tip—scroll through the contact list in both you and your fiance’s phones to give yourself a starting point. Depending on the size of the wedding you want, you may also want to ask for input from close relatives.

3. What’s My Wedding Style?

Are you that person who has been planning your dream wedding since childhood? If so, you may have already determined your wedding style a long time ago.

Assuming you haven’t defined your wedding style yet, think about some major themes and narrow down your style from there. For example, some trendy wedding themes in recent years have been rustic, traditional, and coastal. There will be a style out there that will suit both you and your fiance perfectly.

Answering these three questions will help guide your wedding planning process and assist in deciding on the aesthetic elements like flowers, food, decor, and of course, your wardrobe.
